Dr Jones, M.D., is an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Cornell University Medical College in New York, and Director of Clinical Research Consultants in Basle, Switzerland.
 
He was Editor of the Brazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases of five years and he has been a Medical Advisor to the Emerging Infectious Diseases section of the World Health Organisation.

He received his undergraduate education at Allegheny College in Pennsylvania, and his medical degree from Case Western Reserve School of Medicine in Ohio. He completed training in internal medicine and infectious diseases at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, and initiated research in cellular responses to intracellular microbes at Rockefeller University.
 
After two years of caring for patients with tropical infectious diseases in the Phillipines during the Vietnam war, Dr Jones returned to Cornell as an assistant professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases. He then became chief of the newly created Division of International Medicine. In 1985 he moved to Switzerland and became head of the Division of Respiratory, Dermatologic and Infectious Diseases at Sandoz Pharmaceutical. In 1995 he became a clinical research consultant, specialising as a medical advisor in infectious diseases and clinical trials design and publication. He is currently a Medical Consultant to Novartis Consumer Health AG in Nyon, Switzerland.
